The Final Day: Abandoned and Betrayed
The Gospel of Matthew only covers about three years of Jesus’ remarkable life. It has only fifteen verses about the resurrection, the culminating miracle. Yet it has two long chapters, over 100 verses, about the final day of Jesus life with the crucifixion as its central event. Too often these verses are read only on Good Friday to the few who choose to observe that sacred day. Because the events of that last day have such a prominent place in the Gospels it seems imperative that we take a more detailed look at them, hence this Lenten sermon series, The Final Day. The aim is to help us understand the significance of those events then and now.
